Friday Dispatch #1 - Crisis Friday Dispatch

Hi,

This is first post for the "Crisis Friday Dispatch" series.
We will be posting every friday to give an update on our progress. This will include insight into what we have been up to, what is planned and interesting fun dispatch about the development of the game.

Firstly, what is Crisis: Keys to power?
Crisis was inspired by a classic game called "Crisis in the Kremlin".
The game was based on the final years of the soviet union and you will be the leader trying to stop the union from falling apart.
However, the game followed a pre-determine route that the union will always fall regardless of what you do.

So, we sat down and thought, why not create a new game with these new features:

  • Open ended with no fixed route
  • Actions of the player interact with the underlying systems and impacts what happens to the country
  • Deep mechanics to simulate the political aspect of country management
  • Ability to play as any country and any time period (post WW2)
  • Mod friendly

What we envisioned is a game where you can play as any country in any post WW2 time period and enjoy the difficulty of managing a country.
You could be Reagan trying to restore America to it's glory or Gorbachev keeping the Soviet Union together.
You could be Deng Xiaoping initiating China's economic reforms or Margaret Thatcher privatizing UK's national industries.

All while having to deal with checks and balances of the parliament, having coalitions forming to oppose your policies should you take things a step too far. Minister could disagree and silently oppose you with every means available and your would have to keep tabs on your popularity with the public if you are in a democracy.

No man rules alone.
Handle the keys to power well, and you get to keep your throne.

There would be motions of no confidence tabled to dispose you of power and there would be budgets and debt ceiling to handle. But if you still prevail, would you rise as a great leader and lead your country to success or rise as a supreme leader and get rid of the keys once and for all?

We here at Crisis are a bunch of people who are huge fans of the famed Paradox Studios and we will definitely incorporate their "Game Pillars" philosophy and create one of the best political simulator games out there.
